Dr. Shafik Sachedina: Healthcare Entrepreneurship With A Philanthropic Touch

People who make ventures in the healthcare industry gets numerous opportunities to touch human lives with an impact positively. But, many of them do not make that happen due to their conflicting interests. Dr. Shafik Sachedina is completely different from those investors, and he analyses every opportunity in the sector through a philanthropic point of view.

Dr. Sachedina is the Joint Chairman of Sussex Health Care, a network of homes for senior living in the U.K. His leadership of the senior living home network has given it a human touch with its high-value service, and engaging and restful days for the senior citizens.

He is also serving as the HOD of Jamati Institutions, which is part of the Secretariat of the Aga Khan in France. Dr. Sachedina is the principal coordinator of various programs and activities of the institutions of the Ismaili community in nearly 16 core areas it operates.

He is also overviewing the Aga Khan Development institutions and programs in various Ismaili communities in and around Central Asia. Interestingly, his collaboration with Aga Khan institutions is of voluntary in capacity and in par with the tradition of the community to offer voluntary service to the society. In general, his collaboration with the voluntary services of the community helped him to shape his philanthropic thoughts and made him more focused.

Apart from being a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute, Dr. Sachedina has also taken many other roles in the Ismaili community which are aimed to make an improvement to the quality of life and well-being of the community members.

He is the Aga Khan Development Network Committee member and serving as the Chairman of FOCUS Committee, a humanitarian assistance community. Dr. Sachedina is also part of the International Forum of Ismaili Leaders. He was also two-term President of the United Kingdom division of the Ismaili Council – another role as part of his voluntary capacity.

Dr. Sachedina was born in Tanzania in the year 1950 and earned his bachelors in Dental Surgery from the University of London’s Guy’s Medical and Dental School in the year 1975. In the next few decades, he served as a dental surgeon in the U.K.

In the later years, Dr. Sachedina focused on entrepreneurial opportunities in the healthcare sector with philanthropic elements he had from his childhood. He served as a Director of the Horsham Clinic Limited, Imara U.k. Limited, the Horsham Clinic Limited, Islamic Publications Limited, and more.
